3 Life Lessons I Learned from Late Rita Mulcahy

Yang-Rita_sqThis may sound too common sense in our daily professional life… “Know our priority”; “Keep things simple”; and “Be authentic in our professional dealings”. But they are probably the most difficult to practice and achieve in all profession.

In July, 2009, three years after appointed as the authorised training provider of RMC Project Management, Inc., I had the privilege to meet the Founder — late Rita Mulcahy. The sad thing is that barely one year after meeting her, she passed away.

Rita has left a legacy that makes every professional become GREATER professional in life. Through my business interaction with her over the 4-year period, her influence in my career is best expressed in these 3 key principles.

  1. Know the Priority
  2. Keep It Simple
  3. Be Authentic

I am not going to write long paragraphs detailing the above, but just list down some thoughts that aligned with each point, hence the concept.

Know the purpose of our projects / life. Know our stakeholders… their level of influences and impacts of outcome to them. Focus area. Goal.

Simplicity is NOT simplistic. It’s highly sophisticated. Productive. Clear.

Open. Honest. Integrity. Be realistic. Get buy-in. Establish trust. Influence. Build credibility.

Think deeper on the above points. They are interrelated. I will share more thoughts in future articles.
