Successful Projects Workshop Series Critical Path Analysis & Earned Value Management
Our Successful Projects series are workshops that use simulation concepts to allow participants learning complex project management knowledge in fun and effective way.
The Critical Path Analysis & Earned Value Management workshop is a combination of classroom teaching and interactive workshop style, incorporate with simulation as learning tool, to introduce the concept, processes, and application of these practices to the participants. It is aligned to the PMBOK® Guide and provides realistic scenarios in real-life project context for the participants to deal with.
Intended Audiences
This workshop is intended for anyone who involve in planning, executing, monitoring and controlling projects, especially in the aspect of cost and schedule:
- Project sponsors and executives
- project and programme managers
- project scheduler / project financial controller
- project team lead / team members
- PMO personnel
Key Learning Points
In this workshop, participants go through the following learning points:
- Describe the theories and practical usage of Critical Path Analysis (CPA) and Earned Value Management (EVM)
- Analyze the critical path of project and use the information to make decisions
- Track and analyze project status using earned value management method
Workshop Kits
The following packages will be included in this workshop, some items will be shared and some is made available for individual participant:
- “Scheduling Challenge” simulation kit (one kit can be used for 3 teams)
- Earned Value Simulation worksheets (one set can be used for 3 teams)
- Project Management Handbook (for each participant)
Simulation Workshop Duration:
2 day (14 hours)
14 PDUs
Workshop Outlines
Critical Path Analysis – Scheduling Challenge Simulation Exercise
This team-based exercise teaches participants how to calculate and analyze the project’s critical path, make schedule crashing decisions, compare a network diagram to a Gantt chart and histogram display.
After analyzing the project situation the teams make schedule-related decisions. From this point forward, they will know how to determine how to make the best decisions on what project activities are the best decisions for shortening.
Earned Value Management – Earned Value Project Simulation Exercise
In this workshop, participants go through the following learning points:
- Explain how a network diagram’s information can convert into a planned value line chart
- Chart the earned value (EV) and actual cost (AC) against a project’s planned value (PV)
- Describe a project’s status based on charted variances
- Filter important project information from excess informational noise as it relates to project status reporting
- Describe common conflicts as they pertain to the project team member roles.
